The Euroleague has officially announced the early end of the 2019/20 season due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
All 18 participants of the current Euroleague draw retain their places in the tournament for the 2020/21 season.
The new Euroleague season starts on October 1, the Eurocup on September 30.
Russia in the Euroleague is represented by three clubs: Zenit, Khimki and CSKA.
The Board of Shareholders held its fourth meeting on Monday after the suspension of the season, which took place on March 12. According to its results, it was decided to abandon the option with the completion of the Euroleague and Eurocup draws.
It is noted that the priority of the Euroleague is the safety of all participants and fans. Also in the list of main reasons for the cancellation of the season there is a different situation with COVID-19 in different countries and the risk of injury due to a pause and lack of time for full training camps.
8 clubs that qualified for the quarter-finals of the current draw (UNICS, Monaco, Partizan, Promitheas, Virtus, Tofas, Venice, Unicaja) will definitely perform in Eurocup 2020/21. The remaining 16 places will be distributed according to the results of national championships. The final list of participants will be approved by the board of shareholders.
